National re-evaluation of interval cancer and screening detected breast cancer

Vestre Viken and The Cancer Registry arranged a workshop on national re-evaluation of interval- and screening detected breast cancer the 7th and 8th of Juni in Drammen.

Interval cancers are cancers that occur between two screening visits in the mammographic screening program. Interval cancers are highly proliferative and often aggressive breast cancers. The 16 breast diagnostic centres in Norway have participated in the re-evaluation of interval cancer headed by the Cancer Registry. Tone Hovda from Vestre Viken has been in charge of the radiology in the study. The aim of the study is to secure the quality in the mammographic screening program and monitor the incidence of interval cancer. Medical radiologist from most of the breast diagnostic centres in Norway participated in the workshop.

Dr. Matthew Wallis from Camebrigde University Hospital, UK was invited to talk about the Sloan project and the LORIS trial. Ying Chen from Akershus University Hospital presented a pathological view on interval cancers.
